Case Study: Cash Jar – Mobile App UI Design

Introduction:

In a span of just 4 days, I embarked on the design journey of Cash Jar, a mobile app exploration that serves as a financial companion, aiding users in tracking their expenses and offering a seamless shopping experience. My approach to this project involved conducting one-on-one interviews to gain deeper insights into the app’s functionality and purpose, considering that it falls under the fintech product category. The design process encompassed low-fidelity screen designs, followed by high-fidelity screen designs. These screens covered key aspects such as sign-in, sign-up, OTP verification, profile management, transaction tracking, and the user dashboard.

 

Project Objective:

The primary objective of Cash Jar is to provide users with a user-friendly and visually appealing interface that simplifies expense tracking and enhances the shopping experience. The app aims to promote better financial management and help users stay on top of their transactions effortlessly.

Design Process:

Research and User Interviews:

I initiated the project by conducting one-on-one interviews with potential users and clients to gather insights into their financial habits, pain points, and expectations from a financial management app. This step was crucial in shaping the app’s features and user interface.

Low-Fidelity Screen Design:

With a clear understanding of the app’s objectives, I proceeded to create low-fidelity screen designs. These sketches provided a rough framework for the app’s layout and functionality, allowing me to iterate quickly and gather feedback.

High-Fidelity Screen Design:

Following validation of the low-fidelity designs, I transitioned to high-fidelity screen designs. These designs incorporated visual elements, color schemes, typography, and a seamless user flow to ensure an engaging and intuitive user experience.

Sign-In:

The sign-in screen offers a secure and hassle-free login experience for existing users.

Sign-Up:

New users can easily register by providing essential details.

OTP Verification: I implemented a robust OTP verification process to enhance security.

Profile Management:

Users can manage their personal information, payment methods, and preferences

Transaction Tracking:

The app allows users to view, categorize, and analyze their transactions, providing valuable insights into their spending habits

User Dashboard:

The dashboard offers an at-a-glance overview of a user’s financial health, including account balances, expenses, and savings.

Challenges: Despite the tight timeframe, I managed to create a visually appealing and functional app interface. However, some challenges included:

  • Balancing aesthetics with functionality to ensure a seamless user experience.
  • Implementing robust security measures, particularly in the OTP verification process.
  • Ensuring that the app design remained adaptable to different device screen sizes and resolutions.

Results:

Cash Jar’s UI design successfully combines aesthetics with functionality, providing users with an intuitive and visually appealing tool for expense tracking and shopping. The high-fidelity screens emphasize the app’s usability, while the incorporation of key features like transaction tracking and user dashboards enhances financial management.

 

Conclusion: In just four days, I transformed the concept of Cash Jar into a user-centric mobile app design, leveraging low and high-fidelity screens to bring the vision to life. This case study showcases my ability to efficiently design fintech solutions that prioritize user experience and financial well-being.
